According to the FBI, as reported by the Patch, Scotts Valley has the lowest crime rate in ALL of Santa Cruz County. Something we appreciate and are proud of!

The Patch goes on to write:

Scotts Valley police reported 16 violent crimes last year, a slight increase from the 13 violent crimes reported in 2011, but continued to have the lowest crime rates in Santa Cruz County.

The number of property crimes in the city last year did increase, rising from 279 to 325 in the year-to-year comparison.

In 2012, Scotts Valley had a violent crime rate of 1.4 known offenses per 1,000 residents, the lowest in the county. Santa Cruz reported the highest violent crime rate: 7.1.

Scotts Valley’s property crime rate was also the lowest in the county. The city had 27.6 known offenses per 1,000 people in 2012. Santa Cruz reported the most property crime per capita, at 58.6 known offenses per 1,000 people.

The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. Scotts Valley had 2.3 sworn officers for every 1,000 residents in 2012.
