Citizen Science: Bioluminescence: Jellyfish Lights & Flashing Neurons

August 4, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

What is bioluminescence? Why do so many animals glow? This talk will give a broad overview of the enigmatic glowing creatures that are in our very own backyard. You will learn what local and international scientists are doing to use these animals’ genes to study cancer, produce light from natural sources, and understand how our brains work.

Presented by Darrin Schultz, PhD student at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and UC Santa Cruz studying marine bioluminescent organisms.
