Pack 608 Cubanapolis 500
June 7, 2015 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pmFree
Make a car (or any kind of vehicle) out of a cardboard box. Come race it and have a blast! Or just come to watch the fun even if you don’t make a car.
Kids need a cardboard box that is big enough to stand up inside and carry. It can have an open top, or cut-out holes for arms and head. Cars should ideally be between 24”and 36” long, about 12” high and between 12” and 18” wide, but there are no strict rules for car size, so make it as big or small as you like as long as you can wear it and run with it.
There are many examples online, just Google “Cubanapolis”.
The kids vote on awards for The Most Realistic, The Most Creative and The Most Patriotic cars.
**Keep in mind that the cars will likely end up damaged (if not completely destroyed) by the time the race is over.
Pack 608 is Cub Scouts from 1st through 5th grade. We are very family friendly and include siblings whenever we can. There will be races for all boys of “cub age” and also races for siblings.
Each driver must run 4 laps around the course, and each driver must pull over in the pit to make 3 pit stops during the first 3 laps. Each racer must have a pit crew consisting of 1 or 2 family members or adult friends During the pit stop, the crew must do one of the following:
* Change tires (The pit crew must take the driver’s shoes and socks off, turn socks inside out, put them back on, put shoes back on and re-tie shoes)
* Refuel (driver drinks four ounces of liquid through a straw)
* Clean windshield (all drivers should wear goggles or sunglasses. A pit crew member will spray water on the goggles and dry them with a washcloth or small towel)
