Peace Paper Project
April 29, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree
The Scotts Valley branch of the Santa Cruz Public Library System will host a FREE drop-in hand papermaking workshop and lecture facilitated by Peace Paper Project, a New York-based nonprofit art therapy organization.
Peace Paper Project co-directors Drew Matott and Margaret Mahan will visit the Capitola and Scotts Valley branch libraries to conduct free, drop-in papermaking workshops. They also will give a 45-minute presentation about their organization in Scotts Valley.
The lecture will begin at 2 p.m.; the papermaking workshop will be 3-6 p.m. The papermaking workshops are open to the public and free. Participants have the option to contribute a piece of fabric to the community pulp batch. Acceptable materials include cotton, linen, hemp or polyester and should be approximately 6 x 8 inches in size. Participants will get to make their own sheets of paper. The process includes pulping the materials with the beater, moving the pulp into buckets, then pressing pulp onto mold screens to let the pulp drain. The still-soft sheets of handmade paper then are removed from the screens and left to dry. Participants can label their pieces of paper and pick them up the following day (or later) when the paper has dried.
