CITY OF SCOTTS VALLEY AND SCOTTS VALLEY PARKS AND RECREATION ADVOCATES ANNOUNCE CANCELLATION OF 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS & FESTIVAL, PARADE AND OTHER LARGE SUMMER EVENTS

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA — Given the indefinite State and County Shelter-in-Place Orders and the prohibition on large social gatherings, the City of Scotts Valley and the Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation Advocates regret to announce the cancellation of the following 2020 summer events:

• 4th of July Fireworks & Festival in Skypark
• 4th of July Parade
• Movies in the Park
• Summer sessions of the Scotts Valley Police Department Jr. Police Academy

“These are cherished, family-oriented events that bring Scotts Valley together,” stated Mayor Randy Johnson, “We are sorry they cannot go forward this year as we know how much they are valued by our community. We look forward to our special community events resuming after the crisis passes.”

“We mourn the loss of our Summer events, namely our baby, July 4th,” said Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation Advocate Joe Nedney, “Our community has done so well during this pandemic and that should be celebrated, but our safety is the priority. We’ll be back!”

These large events were cancelled in line with the Shelter-in-Place Orders and out of deep concern for the health and well-being of the community. The City is currently evaluating summer recreation programs.
