The Santa Margarita Groundwater Agency (SMGWA), formed in 2017 to comply with California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, has a board vacancy for a Well Owner Alternate Representative and applications are now being accepted for the position. The public agency serves communities in the San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley areas.
To be eligible, an applicant must own, operate, or be served by an individual well, small water system, mutual, or other non-municipal water system within the Santa Margarita Groundwater Basin. They must also be able to meet the time commitment of approximately 8 hours per month, including evenings. The position is unpaid.
An ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative setting. They will have the means and motivation to communicate with the community they are representing. They will have knowledge and experience that will benefit the SMGWA and the development of the Groundwater Sustainability Plan.

The Santa Margarita Groundwater Agency (SMGWA) is a joint powers authority comprised of the San Lorenzo Valley Water District, Scotts Valley Water District and the County of Santa Cruz, to oversee the groundwater management activities in the Santa Margarita Groundwater Basin in Santa Cruz County, California. The agency was established in 2017.
