Bring your bike, bring your friends – Join the Fun!!! Equity Transit is partnering with Ecology Action to host a Safe Streets Bike Ride Party starting in downtown Santa Cruz! Remember to bring bike lights and a helmet.
Santa Cruz County has one of the highest traffic violence rates, deaths and serious injuries due to car crashes, in the State! Traffics violence has increased over 30% since Covid began and 65% in the 10 years prior!
How can we make our city streets safer for EVERYONE? How can we take community action? Riding together is a large group brings visibility and awareness to the importance of safe biking on our roads.
Our streets belong to everyone!
National Transit Equity Day is February 4th, recognized on Rosa Parks’ birthday for her pivotal role in combating racial segregation on public buses, trains and trolleys. Equity Transit is sponsoring a week of activities honoring this national coalition event.
A lack of robust, equitable transportation is a major barrier to education, jobs and opportunity, and is a top predictor of future poverty. Prior to the 1940-50s, the United States had one of the world’s greatest public transit networks. Public Transportation is a Human Rights and Civil Rights Issue! The destruction of our once great public transit systems has systematized racism and classism in this country.
How did the United States go from having the world’s leading public transit systems to severe transit Inequity? How does the steamrolling of the American Public building highways through the bedrooms and backyards of Black and brown communities starting in the 1950’s impact us still today?
Access to Robust Public Transportation is a Civil Right!
Safe streets, a key component of Transit Equity Day, are integral to accessing public transit as well as ensuring that children can bike safely to school and that the most vulnerable members of the community, including elderly and disabled, can walk and roll safely through our streets.
