Chef Mo L’Esperance is an award-winning bay area chef who specializes in California coastal cuisine. In addition to her numerous local accolades, she has been a part of the James Beard Foundation since 2012 as well as a Blue-Ribbon Task Force (BRTF) chef appointed by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The BRTF is a collection of chefs from across the country helping to promote and bring awareness to sustainable fishing practices around the world to help preserve our oceans.
Chef Mo is originally from Southern California but soon after high school moved to San Francisco where she trained to become a chef. Once she honed her skills, she took charge of a handful of fine dining restaurants where she was recognized by local publications such as Eater, Edible & Food Network to name a few. Chef Mo eventually wanted a bigger challenge and became the driving force behind many North Bay hotel and restaurant renovations like Tiburon Tavern & MacArthur Place Sonoma.
Growing up at the beach Chef Mo has always been drawn to the ocean. Santa Cruz is where she settled as the chef of Costanoa and then at the Dream Inn. After Covid she decided it was time to go into business for herself. As a long-time Ben Lomond resident, she is thrilled to have the opportunity to do so here in the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains.
T’was the summer of 96 when the Cowboy came to town, swinging wide open a new culinary frontier in the heart of downtown Felton. Since 1996 the Cowboy Bar & Grill strives to provide fresh, creative American cuisine & cocktails with leanings toward the spirit & enthusiasm of the “New West”. The atmosphere is casual and priced comfortably, allowing our new and old friends to join us several times a week.
In the early days of 2016, we packed up our wagons and headed out of the big city, south about a half mile or so when the wagon wheel kicked off the axle and rolled into the river. We had no choice but to open where we stood. Our new roadhouse has welcomed us like a dear friend, giving us more space and a beautiful garden patio surrounded by redwoods and cloaked by a magnificent Oak. Much to “Yahoo” about.
If you are coming to the Santa Cruz Mountains to taste the wines, hike the redwoods, chill in the river, visit Henry Cowell, or “just because” please come knock on our door. We look forward to the opportunity to charm you with our menu staples, daily specials and full bar with Cowboy styled cocktails and a proud selection of Tequilas & Whiskeys.
Hope to see you soon,
Jim Geary, and the whole “Cowboy Family” that makes it worth the ride.
