Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. This year, we welcome Ensamble Folclórico Colibrí, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and LGBTQ+ History Month through dance and discussion. All Ensamble Folclórico Colibrí performances begin at 3 PM on the event dates. Event dates are:
Saturday, October 9, at the Felton Branch Library
Sunday, October 10th, at the Santa Cruz City Hall Courtyard
Sunday, October 17th, at the Capitola Branch Library
A small exhibit of Folclórico costumes and light refreshments will be provided from 2-5 pm on the performance dates. The exhibits will be available October 1 – 9 at the Felton Branch, October 10 – 16 at the Downtown Branch, and October 17 – 23 at the Capitola Branch. The event explores the art and cultures of our immigrant communities, and is followed by a Día de los Muertos Program in early November at 3 branch locations.
