Santa Cruz, CA – The mountain town markets are underway and the glory of the summer season is shining brightly on the tables. Scotts Valley and Felton invite you to sit down with a delicious meal, grocery bags full at your feet, and gaze out at the redwoods, the sandy mountainside, a sea of beautiful foods and faces that grace this place we call home. We are beyond thrilled to share that seasonal growers Groundswell Farm and Casalegno Family Farm have returned with their precious tomatoes, tender beans and basil up the wazoo. I hesitate to spread the word about Casalegno’s red heirloom garlic – brought with the first Italian family member to this county over 100 years ago – heaven on earth. Chicken Foot is also keeping weekly company at these markets – selling unique, value added foods to take home and enjoy. Here Felton native, Chef Jessica Yarr, offers up the Eastern European cultural food ways she learned from her grandmother, buy pierogi, curried snack, borsch and knish.

And a big announcement, we have just secured a grant from Kaiser Permanente to offer the Market Match Double Up for the rest of the season at the SV and Felton markets. When folks use their CalFresh/EBT card here the first $10 is matched with $20 of Market Match for fresh fruits and vegetables, for FREE. Woo hoo! Let’s celebrate this season together.
