The Scotts Valley Farmers’ Market welcomes you to the launch of the 2023 season on May 6. Join us for a second year at the Joe and Linda Alberti Boys & Girls Club off of Scotts Valley Drive. Nestled up against this valuable, family-centered organization, and a stone’s throw away from essential Scotts Valley businesses, this spot was a wonderful home last year and we’re glad to return. Here, every Saturday until Thanksgiving, a remarkable collection of regional farms and food businesses throw up their tents to sell fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, eggs, artisanal bread, brunch, flowers, seafood and other staple foods.

The Market starts the season with a Strawberry Shortcake Give Away on opening day! Indulge in a treat of fresh strawberries with whipped cream stacked on top of the famous shortbread of Beckmann’s Bakery. The Boys & Girls Club will head up art activities and the Santa Cruz Public Libraries orchestrates a market hunt with prizes. Every week that follows will offer a family-friendly atmosphere and something novel to taste or just gaze at – romanesco, pluots, figs and so many pepper varieties.

In 2023 local farm AP Botanical joins with flowers, lettuces, corn, summer veggies and wreaths for the fall. A graduate from the Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association, we’re honored to support this burgeoning business. A fine selection of Pajaro Pasture’s  eggs, pork and lamb will be on the table alongside Laurel Canyon garden starts and flowers. Rotating drinks brings Steel Bonnet and La Via with their varied offerings. The food truck spot will be lively with Dos Hermanos Pupuseria and My Mom’s Mole while Delicious Crepes and Cuevas are here to meet your breakfast and lunch needs weekly. Find knife sharpening, artisanal soap and Hidden Fortress Coffee with a full espresso bar and thirst quenching lemonades for hot days.

This year the Scotts Valley Market continues to offer the Market Match program, which helps CalFresh/EBT participants stretch their dollars. Ten dollars of EBT is matched with an additional $10 in tokens for fresh fruits and vegetables.

And in 2023 the FoodShed Project events represent with Summer Sweets on July 15 and Foodie, Fruity Wreath Making on September 23. On these special event days come out for the market hunt and prizes with the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, free mini scoops from the Penny Ice Creamery (11a-1p on 7/15 only), a workshop with Mountain Feed and Farm Supply, art making, face painting and frolicking in the sun. See you there food lovers.
