The San Lorenzo Valley Water District (SLVWD) has released its draft 2025 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan for public review. The draft plan will be presented at the Feb. 6 SLVWD Board of Directors meeting.

Funded by a California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program grant, the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) seeks to:

  • Identify natural and technological/human-caused hazards that impact the District
  • Assess the vulnerability and risk posed by those hazards to District-wide human and structural assets
  • Develop strategies to mitigate those identified hazards
  • Present future maintenance procedures for the plan
  • Document the planning process

The planning process for the 2025 LHMP began in May 2024 with input from District staff and stakeholders. Representatives from the County of Santa Cruz, CAL FIRE, Scotts Valley Water District, the City of Santa Cruz, and the unincorporated areas of Boulder Creek and Zayante participated in planning meetings.

SLVWD will implement mitigation actions as feasible, build these actions into budgets, and utilize the plan to apply for federal grant assistance. The plan will be monitored, updated and evaluated periodically.

Public input on the hazards, risk assessment, mitigations and other components of the LHMP is encouraged. Review the plan and submit feedback on the District website.
