The Felton Farmers’ Market opens its doors again on May 1st in the downtown corridor off Highway 9. Every Tuesday through October, 2:30-6:30pm, the heart of Felton lights up as farmers and food artisans throw up their tents to sell a colorful array of delicious edibles to grocery shoppers and diners alike. Connecting residents directly with local farms, the Felton Market is a resource for agricultural education and acts as a community-gathering place for families, friends and neighbors. Increasingly focused on regional growers from the mountain towns, a handful of the farms at market grow their goods less than 10 miles away.

This season visitors will find a robust selection of organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, plant starts for the home garden, pasture-raised chicken eggs, flowers, fresh breads, seafood, local micro breweries, pastries and ready-to-eat cuisine. The Penny Ice Creamery returns with artisanal ice cream, Hidden Fortress Coffee Roasters has delicious espresso drinks and lemonades, Roli Roti offers rotisserie chicken and potatoes and H&H Fresh Fish sells ceviche, poke bowls and Monterey Bay catch to take home for dinner.

As tradition goes, the Market kicks off the season with a Strawberry Shortcake Give Away! Live Earth and Vasquez Farm strawberries with whipped cream stacked on Beckmann’s Bakery famous shortbread. Every week that follows will offer a family friendly atmosphere with live bluegrass, jazz and country music and a central Kids Zone area. The Market Match program helps EBT (CalFresh) users stretch their dollars. For the second year, a double match special is on for the month of May (or until funds are exhausted). A $10 swipe with an EBT card equals $30 in tokens for food and fresh produce at the market.

As if the Market wasn’t glorious enough in its own right, special events happen throughout the season bringing special partners, workshops, prizes, activities and all kinds of fun.  The SC Public Libraries KERMIT, the bicycle book mobile, is back for a series of scavenger hunts. Win a basket of berries and check out library books right in the market. Mountain Feed and Farm Supply joins us with unique DIY workshops including strawberry jam, apple sauce and pumpkin pickle making. Put these dates on your calendar: Summer, Summer, Summer Time on June 26th, Apple-A-Day on September 18th and the Pumpkin Decorating Bonanza on October 23rd. Make the Felton Farmers’ Market a weekly outing for the whole family every Tuesday in 2018.
