Sergeant Meredith Roberts of the Scotts Valley Police Department, a graduate of Scotts Valley High School has been positively influencing other women and our youth for many years. Her work with the D.A.R.E. program in addition to the relationship that she has built with the entire community through her volunteering efforts and person-to-person relationships has been outstanding and second to none.

Before coming to Scotts Valley, where did you live?
Before moving to Scotts Valley I lived in a small town called Palo Cedro, which is located near Redding, CA. Palo Cedro was incredibly rural with one main road, one small locally owned grocery store and one school which was K-8 with a whopping 300 students. I loved the small town feel and growing up with creeks and hillsides to discover with my friends.
What brought you to Scotts Valley and how long have you lived here?
My family moved to Scotts Valley when I was a sophomore in high school. I was able to join Scotts Valley High School within the first couple of years of its inception and stayed locally for college. My dad grew up in Monterey and San Jose. My mom was the daughter of an Air Force family who lived all over; however when she was 15 she established her roots in San Jose. Scotts Valley was the middle ground of the two and was comparative to the small town feel of Palo Cedro. My husband grew up in Mount Hermon and we knew that we would be establishing our own roots and raising our children in Scotts Valley.
What do you love most about living here?
I absolutely cherish the small town feel that Scotts Valley still has. Being able to go to the store and run into friends and neighbors always encourages me to slow down and enjoy the companionship that our city still has. The hustle and bustle of bigger cities has never been alluring to me. I appreciate knowing that I can let my children walk to a friend’s house or to the store and they will be safe and watched over by other members of the community. We have beautiful parks and trails to explore. My husband and I sit in our yard and are continuously amazed by our view of the trees and mountains.
Please describe what drives and motivates you to do more for others and for the people of Scotts Valley.
Being able to directly give back to the community that I was raised in and am now raising my children in is my biggest motivating factor to continuously do and be better. I enjoy working in the schools and volunteering for community events. This allows me the opportunity to be a positive role model to the youth and create connections with other members of our community.
