Scotts Valley, CA. – October 11, 2013 – Although it may be the newest dance studio in town, officially opening on September 16th, 2013, dancing is nothing new to Wendy Phillips, the owner of Wings as she brings over 13 years of teaching experience as a dance teacher.

Located in the Camp Evers Shopping Center, just off of Scotts Valley Road and Mt. Hermon Road, Wings features a spacious and bright studio with full mirrors, wall-mounted barres, and an EFS sprung flooring system.

I recently caught-up with Wendy for a Q&A session to get to know her and her business a little better, and it turn introduce her to the rest of our community who have not yet had the pleasure of meeting her or stopping by her studio. The interview went as follows:

Tell us what the “Wings” experience brings

Wings School of Dance focuses on providing positive and enriching dance lessons in a nurturing environment. The 2013-2014 class schedule includes ballet, jazz, tap and creative dance classes for children ages 4 & up. Dance lessons include kinesthetic, visual and auditory elements in order to ensure that children of all learning styles benefit from dance lessons.

What made you pursue your dream of opening up a dance studio?

It has been my lifelong goal to own my own dance school where I could share my love of dance with my students and create a new generation of well-rounded dancers, performers and supporters of the arts.

There are a few dance studios in the area and even in town, what makes Wings different?

Wings School of Dance offers a range of different dance classes and levels. My goal is to create dimensional, multi-faceted dancers who will develop lifelong social skills while embracing the art of dance. I am trained in a variety of dance styles. I am an active member of the dance community and my students benefit from my attendance at annual conventions, incorporating nationally recognized teaching standards into the Wings School of Dance curriculum and continuing to perform professionally as well.

Do you have any special designations as a dance instructor? If so, which ones?

I am currently a member of the National Dance Education Organization as well as the California Dance Educators Association. I have danced professionally as a San Jose SaberKitten for the San Jose SaberCats for the past two seasons. During the 2012 and 2013 dance seasons, I choreographed award-winning routines for Kids Artistic Revue, Rainbow and Star Systems dance competitions. I also continue to teach at a national title holding dance studio in San Jose.

Why Scotts Valley?

Scotts Valley is a great location and there are limited options for dance classes in the area.

What message would you like to send to our community or what in particular would you like for the community to know?

I am thrilled to be part of the Scotts Valley business community! The positivity of the people is what made me decide to open here and I look forward to sharing my love of the art of dance with Scotts Valley for years to come!

Come in and try a free class! For more information on the Wings School of Dance program or to enroll, visit www.wingsschoolofdance.com or give us a call at (831)471-8483.
