With the devastation of the Weed California fires, many communities are rallying to raise funds and much needed supplies to aid those in need in the affected town. The Scotts Valley Falcon community is also looking to raise as many funds and supplies as possible that they can drop off as they pass through the town on October 3rd and 4th on the way to and from a football game in which the SVHS Falcons will be playing in Etna.

In the following open letter to the community written by Brenda Sorensen, the details are as follows:
“Dear 2014 Falcon Families,
As I am sure you all are aware, the devastation in Weed California from the Boles Fires has been tremendous.  It just so happens that when the Varsity team makes the trip to Etna for our game the weekend of October 2nd/3rd, we drive right through the town of Weed.  If you are not familiar with the town it is a very small town that sits off Interstate 5 at the base of Mt. Shasta, they lost over 150 homes, businesses, 2 schools and a church. Living in the area we do, we are all too familiar with the threat and, God forbid, the disaster of a wildfire.
It is difficult to drive through Weed and not experience heartache for all that community has lost.  We thought this would be a great experience for our boys to give to a community in need who were affected by this fire.  We are planning to collect specifically needed items (see list below) and take them to those in need in Weed on our way home from Etna on Saturday.  What we need are the donated items.  I realize JV is not participating in this trip, but we felt that the JV players and their families might like to contribute as well.  We are also opening this up to the entire Scotts Valley Community the the FB page My Scotts Valley.
Please look at the list and make any donations you can to this cause.  You can deliver them to Colin or Logan at any football practice, or drop them off at my house (709 Navarra Dr.).
***We will be collecting items from today through Sunday Sept. 27th.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time!
