Thanksgiving is especially meaningful this year for Jerry and Gina Lyons. Earlier this year Jerry cheated death and survived what his wife Gina described as a multiple bilateral pulmonary embolism.
“Doctors literally told us, ‘We are sorry, there is nothing we can do for you’,” Gina recalls.
The prognosis was so grim that the Lyons called their lawyer, who met them in Jerry’s hospital room to help him get his affairs in order.
“Jerry was in his hospital bed, literally discussing his last issues,” Gina said.
Miraculously the 53-year-old Santa Cruz native pulled through. His recovery will be on the minds of the couples’ daughter, son, grandson and other guests when they sit down for Thanksgiving dinner at the Lyons’ Scotts Valley home.
