SushiBlossomwithFriendsI had the first opportunity to try Sushi Blossom for dinner when the guys at Liberty Tax Service invited me out to dinner and recommended the new place in town in the Camp Evers Shopping Center, where the old Sand Dabs used to be.

When it comes to loyalty, I am a pretty loyal guy and when I heard that this new sushi place was opening up I scratched my head and wondered why we would need a fourth sushi restaurant in Scotts Valley. Yes, we have 3 Starbucks already and I am a big Otoro Sushi and Rumblefish fan, so why another one?

Like the saying goes, don’t knock it until you try it, and try it we did!

SushiBlossom3We started things off with what is called a Jalapeno Bomb and boy was it spicy, but not too spicy however. We added a fresh salad with their “homemade” salad dressing and the traditional miso soup that all Japanese Restaurants serve up. The salad was fresh, and the dressing was “to-die-for”! Yes, I know, I am talking about salad dressing. But it was that good.

We then decided to all order different rolls and we just started ordering sushi rolls with lobster on top, with bacon, spicy tuna, shrimp, tempura, the works. They have a great variety of rolls and everything else you would expect from a sushi menu.

We all looked at the entire feast in front of us that was brought to our table and were laughing because we ordered so much food and knew there was no way we would be able to finish it. But finish it we did! Every grain of rice from the sushi rolls was gone and to top it off, Chase, who runs the place was sending us free samplers of other amazing dishes and although we were not sure how we were going to eat it all, we miraculously devoured it all.

SushiBlossom1The service was spectacular and I was overhearing other people in other tables talk about how this is their 3rd or 4th time that they had been in there and this place just opened last month.

It’s all about the experience along with the good food that makes a place succeed and so far they are doing things right. I can tell that Chase is going out of his way to go talk to people, take them samplers and just really wants to please the customer. That is big for me and that alone will keep me coming back for more.

One of the things that I think will be huge for them is that they will provide a free delivery anywhere in Scotts Valley with an order of $30 or more. I mean, come on, that’s awesome! Imagine hanging out at home, watching a movie and having fresh sushi delivered to your door. Nice!

ChaseandRobertIn addition, there is an outdoor patio where you can bring your dog if you are the type of person that likes to take Fido with you everywhere you go.

So my assessment is a big thumb’s up. The food is fresh, tasty and the service is both friendly and timely. The prices are the norm for sushi places. The place is clean, not too big but just big enough.

At this time they had not yet received their liquor license but I was told that they were working on it so if you wanted a nice cold Saporro with your sushi, it will have to wait until they are able to serve liquor. Or, just order from home and have them deliver and you can have the freedom to enjoy a cold beer or nice glass of wine with a very good meal.

There are some great sushi places already in town, but luckily for all of us, there was room for one more.
