PERMANENT APPOINTMENT OF CITY OF SCOTTS VALLEY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Scotts Valley City Manager, Jenny Haruyama announced the permanent appointment of Mr. Taylor Bateman as the City’s Community Development Director. Mr. Bateman has served in the role of Interim Community Development Director for nearly two years. Mr. Bateman assumed his new position effective Friday, January 19, 2018.

Mr. Bateman has been with the City for nearly 17 years serving in a variety of local land use planning capacities. During his tenure with Scotts Valley, Mr. Bateman worked on a significant number of diverse projects, including the recent 1440 Multiversity Conference Center. Mr. Bateman is currently leading the General Plan update process and will continue to oversee all City planning and building activities, and code enforcement, and play a key role in economic development initiatives. Additionally, his experience spans the full range of current and advanced planning. Prior to Scotts Valley, Mr. Bateman worked for the City of San Luis Obispo.

Mr. Bateman currently serves on the Board of Directors for Bay Federal Credit Union. He also holds a Master of Public Administration from California State University San Jose and a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

City Manager Jenny Haruyama commented that “Mr. Bateman assumed the role of Interim Community Development Director during a critical time of transition – he provided focused leadership and facilitated excellent working relationships with staff and civic leaders to ensure the advancement of key planning projects. Mr. Bateman’s knowledge of the community and overall experience will be an invaluable asset as he leads the Community Development Department into the future.”
